Packard bell master cd emulation1/1/2023 For me, it was all about games, often thoughtful, interesting, interactive, or just weird in ways flashy action games weren't. Director was EVERYWHERE back then, even powering the interfaces of things like the MacAddict monthly pack-in CD. I have a huge soft spot for Macromedia Director and all the games and "edutainment" of the 90s CD-ROM boom. Indeed, I was about to jump out of my seat because I thought my 25 year old copy of Civilization II is getting another breath! Oh well, it isn’t like I can pull all-nighters playing Civ like I used to anyway. Due to its technical accessibility, Director hosted a lot of that experimentation, whether it be in the form of oddball graphic adventure games or surprisingly advanced edutainment titles. The early CD-ROM era was full of cool experimentation, as developers tried to work out what to do with all that space (I subscribed to CD-ROM Today at the time, and they never tired of pointing out that developers now had 650MB to play with). It’s great to see ScummVM’s ever-growing engine support now encompassing Director. Which is a clear, descriptive title, since this development is specific to games made using Director. If you look at the URL, the original headline is “ScummVM now supports Macromedia Director for early CD-ROM games”. Indeed, this is not about "games from the Win3.x/Win9x-era that happened to come on CD-ROM." This is about games made with the Macromedia Director engine specifically.
